The Story – A Kingdom – David

THE STORY: Week 9 – David

  1. Read 1 Samuel 17:32-47.  What words you would use to describe David in these verses?  How would you describe his relationship/dependence on God? What was his focus/goal in life?

Now read 2 Samuel 11:1-21.  What has changed in the life of David?  Notice in vs. 1 – it was “the king’s men AND the whole Israelite army” who were out fighting but “David remained in Jerusalem” which was a no-no for a King.  How did this decision affect/influence his decision to sleep with Bathsheba?

2 Samuel 13-18 outlines some of the consequences of David’s sin.  Why is it important for us to be reminded of this?  How did David, a man after God’s heart, get in this place?  Why are God’s forgiveness and His consequences often different?

  1. Read Psalm 51.  David wrote most of the Psalms, and many in response to his own sin.  Why is this chapter so powerful in discussing our own journey with sin/consequences?
  2. Look at 2 Samuel 6:16-23.  What are some of your observations about this event in the life of Israel/David?  What do you learn about worship?  What do you learn about watching vs. joining/participating in what God is doing?  What do you learn about marriage?
