The Story – A Kingdom – Judah

THE STORY: Week 10 -Judah (Gen. 38)

  1. Spend a few minutes sharing a quick re-cap of your own personal family tree.  What were some of the stories your parents/grandparents used to tell?  Were those stories primarily positive or negative?  Who is/was your greatest relative?  Have you had (or have) any embarrassing people in the history of your family tree?
  2. Read Jeremiah 29:10-14; John 10:7-10.  What do these verses indicate about the plans/desires God has for His people?  Do you think those desires have changed since those verses were written?  Why is it so hard to believe in the goodness of God?  Like Judah, are you tempted to believe that fully following Jesus will rob you of your fun in life?
  3. Take some time and name as many stories/people in the Bible that God used AFTER they had sinned/messed up in some way.  Read Heb. 4:14-5:4.  What do these verses reveal about Jesus’ ability to understand us in our weaknesses and sin?  What about our fellow leaders (priests) in the body of Christ?  Since we are all a part of the priesthood, how does it help to know that our fellow priests are subject to weakness and can understand what we are going through?
